Each release has a SHA256SUMS.txt. Compare the hash of the file you downloaded with the one listed for it.

Terminal window
Get-FileHash .\pqdoctor-0.2.1-windows-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256

The hash must match exactly. If it doesn’t, delete the file and download it again.

The CLI isn’t code-signed. On first run, Windows may show “Windows protected your PC”.

  1. Check the file’s SHA-256 against SHA256SUMS.txt first (above).
  2. Click More info.
  3. Click Run anyway.

The checksum is how you know the file is the one that was published.

The macOS binary is ad-hoc signed but not notarized by Apple. Downloaded with curl it runs as is. If you downloaded it in a browser, macOS quarantines it and says it “cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software”. After checking the SHA-256, remove the quarantine flag:

Terminal window
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine pqdoctor

pqdoctor is also packaged, installing the same release binaries from this page, checked against their SHA-256:

Where Command
Homebrew (macOS, Linux) brew install kalyan-deva/tap/pqdoctor
Scoop (Windows) scoop bucket add kalyan-deva https://github.com/Kalyan-Deva/scoop-bucket then scoop install pqdoctor
winget (Windows) winget install KalyanGopalam.pqdoctor (once Microsoft has merged it)
cargo-binstall (any OS with Rust) cargo binstall pqdoctor: the prebuilt binary, no compile

The pqdoctor CLI’s source is on crates.io. With Rust stable installed, on any OS:

Terminal window
cargo install pqdoctor

Flarebox’s source is in the project repository, which is private for now.
